2. Is there any academic evidence to support the effectiveness of EXAT?

A: Decades of academic researches have been done to validate the effectiveness of EXAT, including randomised controlled trails across different countries such as US and Australia. In 2013, the Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia(PACFA) has published a literature review of the effectiveness of EXAT. 3. Do we need to know how to draw, play any instruments, dance or drama techniques, or even literature and poetry background before receiving EXAT?

A: You don't have to know any art form. EXAT is not about using a criticising attitude to assess how well / pretty you could make the art, what matters is the art-making process, as well as the meaning you give to the art product (it could be visual art products like paintings or sculpture, a music piece, a series of dance and movements or dramas, or poems or stories).

4. How many sessions will be needed usually?

A: In general, EXAT sessions would involve three stages: the Beginning, the Processes and the Termination. The progress of sessions would vary depending on the complexity of the specific personal matters, and the readiness, emotions and feelings of clients during each session. 8 sessions would be an average number of sessions that clients might need.

5. Who can receive EXAT?

A: Everyone can receive EXAT and the session plan of EXAT is tailor made for every client according to individual differences and needs. I am specialised in working with children who are struggling with:

  • Behavioural problems

  • Emotional problems

  • Single parents

  • Attention Deficit and Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)

  • Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

6. During the period of receiving EXAT, is there anything that the family and friends can do?

A: When the clients are receiving EXAT, it is possible that there are times that they are trying to sort out their emotions, or to adjust themselves to a new insight or psychological status. It would be the best when family and friends can show more support, for example, providing non-judgmental active listening, as it will help the clients feel being understood.
